Population: 541 inhabitants
The name Les Genevez certainly comes from the juniper trees that covered the area at the time and had to be cleared, as in all the communes of the Franches-Montagnes.
The oldest document mentioning Les Genevez dates back to 1381. It is part of an inventory of the property of the neighboring Bellelay Abbey, founded in 1136. From this date until 1798, Les Genevez formed the Courtine de Bellelay with Lajoux, the two Fornets and the Cerniers de Rebévelier. The Abbot of Bellelay was himself a vassal of the Prince-Bishop of Basel, whose principality formed today's Jura and Bernese Jura, as well as the Laufonnais, now in Basel.
The Jura question: historically part of the Moutier district, the commune of Les Genevez, like the other communes of the Val Terbi, tended towards separatism. After 3 votes in 1974 and 1975, Les Genevez and Lajoux joined the new canton and became part of the Franches-Montagnes district
