Municipality
Cornol lies between Porrentruy and Delémont, just off the Col des Rangiers. As far back as 1825, the watchmaking industry began to develop, with small farms running parallel to the agricultural sector, and the village school was built, which today houses the municipal administration. It was not until the second half of the 19th century and into the 20th century that various factories were built in the village, including the large tile factory on route de Courgenay. Emigration was significant during this period: in 1819, thirty-two men, women and children left for Brazil. From 1846 to around 1935, there were numerous departures for America, Canada, France, Austria, Germany, Russia and elsewhere. After the era of messengers, a post office opened in Cornol on December 1, 1853. Seventeenth-century accounts already mention a schoolmaster in Cornol
