Situation

This renovated and perfectly maintained farmhouse is set on a 1600 m2 plot and adorned with large trees in a quaint little village in the Franche Comte.

Municipality

The village lies between Saint-Dizier-l'Évêque and 300 m from the Ajoie village of Bure. The village is aptly named, as water is scarce on this limestone plateau at an altitude of 550 meters. The first recorded mention of the town dates back to 1282, under the name Ueler. Villars-le-Sec was part of the parish of Saint-Dizier-l'Évêque until 1698, when it became part of the parish of Bure in Switzerland. In 1829, the church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin was built and the village became an independent parish. A few hundred metres from the village entrance, coming from Saint-Dizier, a large slab of rock outcrops. Footprints can be made out on it. Legend has it that they are those of Desiderius, the future Saint Dizier, and those of the devil with whom the saint fought and won the battle... A cross is planted nearby to remind passers-by that the site is sacred. In the past, pilgrims used to take a chip from this cross to bring them good luck for the rest of their journey.
