Situation
Municipality
The village is located in the territory of the commune of Courrendlin, in a cluse resulting from a widening of the Moutier Gorge towards Tavannes, in the Jura massif.
The commune of Courrendlin lies in the Birs valley, 4 km as the crow flies, south of Delémont, at the exit of the Choindez cluse. Its territory stretches from the Delémont plain, at 436 m a.s.l., to Montchaibeux (627 m a.s.l.) to Montchemin (870 m a.s.l.), the highest point in the municipality, at 1,000 m a.s.l. (forêt de la Cendre).
The industrial site of Choindez is also part of the municipality of Courrendlin.
First a rural village, Courrendlin developed industrially in the mid-19th century, with the establishment of the Von Roll foundry in Choindez in 1843. Other small and medium-sized mechanical engineering companies were also present in the commune, and a limestone quarry was exploited at the exit of the Choindez cluse
