Situation

The town of Delémont was founded in 1289 thanks to a letter of franchise granted by Pierre Reich de Reichenstein. The character of the Old Town has been particularly well preserved, as evidenced by the many beautifully restored historic buildings. We can cite in the first place the Castle of the Princes-Bishops, the Church of St-Marcel, the Town Hall housing the municipal administration, the two entrance gates or the monumental fountains. The old courthouse and its prison were renovated in the early 2000s to make way for the Hôtel du Parlement, the seat of the Jura legislature. The Old Town is also home to many events, including the weekly market (Wednesday and Saturday mornings) and the monthly fair.
